Possible Diagnosis of Wrist Pain

 Scapholunate Ligament Tear.  Scapholuante ligament is an intra-articular ligament that connects two carpal bone together.  The scaphoid and lunate. It is a main stabilizer of the scaphoid bone. They are located centrally in the wrist. Scapholuante ligament insures that these to carpal bones move in unison and allows for easy rotation of the wrist.  If an injury occurs to the SL ligament then the carpal bones move in opposite direction, which then cause wrist pain, weakness, swelling, and wrist instability. 

Osteoarthritis causes wrist pain. This type of arthritis is from overuse or over exposure to trauma.  The cartilage that cushions the bones is progressively destroyed with time " wear & tear."  Once this occurs the wrist joint begins to develop inflammation, increased in synovial tissue, loss of easy movement of the wrist joint,  and edema.  These patients then complain of wrist stiffness and wrist pain. 

Scaphoid Fracture causes wrist pain. The wrist is made up of carpal bones.  The Scaphoid is one of these bones in the wrist. Usually individuals fracture this carpal bone more commonly than the other carpal bones.  A scaphoid fracture is usually occurs after a fall onto stretched out hand.  This bone does not heal well due to its blood supply that gets cut off with the fracture.  There is pain at the wrist by the base of the thumb, swelling, andweakness with grip. 

The Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex TEAR causes wrist pain.  This complex ligament sustains tears from trauma.  The ligament on the side of the wrist by the small finger.  This injury will cause swelling at the wrist, pain at the wrist, and weakness. Many primary care doctors and patients refer mis-diagnose this wrist injury as a sprain.

Scaphoid Lunate Advanced Collaspe (SLAC) causes wrist pain. A SLAC wrist is a type of arthritis that is a scapholunate dissociation.  Which causes wrist swelling, decreased rom, and wrist pain. .

Scaphoid Non-Union Advanced Collapsed (SNAC) causes wrist pain. Is caused by scaphoid fracture that failed to heal.  Which has similar characteristics as SLAC wrist. This also causes wrist swelling, pain, and decreased range of moition. 

Kienböck's Disease causes wrist pain. This is due to a carpal bone called the lunate that has its blood supply interrupted.  Once the blood supply to the bone is interrupted then the lunate carpal bone is deprived of nourishment.  This causes the bone to die and it under goes necrosis.  The symptoms are wrist pain, weakness, stiff wrist, and deformity. 

Carpal Tunnel, can also cause wrist pain. It's symptoms are wrist pain, wrist swelling, numbness, and tingling

DequervainsTenosynovitis is a painful condition affecting the tendons on the thumb side of your wrist.  Which can cause wrist pain.
